Doll Making

Assembling a Doll

Materials:
  • doll body and accessories template
  • cardboard or thick paper
  • scissors
  • colored felt material pieces
  • pencil
  • glue
  • wool (any color for hair and another color for a hair tie)
  • rickrack (or straw material to create a hat)

Assembling a Doll

Instructions:
  1. Cut out the doll's body and accessories from template.
  2. Lay each individual piece on the appropriate felt colors.
  3. Trace around each piece with a pencil.
  4. Cut out each felt piece.
  5. Draw the backing of the doll on cardboard and then cut it out. This piece is needed to glue the felt pieces onto.
  6. Glue the boots in the appropriate place.
  7. Glue on the skirt, shirt, sleeves handle of the basket, basket, hands and face in the EXACT order.
  8. Use red wool (or another color) for the hair. Cut twelve strands, each 30cm long.
  9. Divide the strands into 2 groups of 6.
  10. 2 cm from the end, tie each group of strands in a knot.
  11. Fold the remaining 2 cm of each group of strands over to the back side of the face (both side by side in the center) and glue to the back of the cardboard.
  12. Braid each group until the length reaches 8cm.
  13. Tie a different colored length of wool 2cm from the bottom of each braid and create a bow.
  14. Cut off any excess pieces of wool.
  15. Glue each braid to the edges of the face, starting from the centre/top and working down.
  16. To make the hat, cut several 30cm pieces of rickrack and make another braid. OR Braid several pieces of straw together.
  17. Glue the hat to the doll's head.
  18. Congradulations! You have made a doll.
